Part one

 I had done everything i said i was going to do, i got through four years of Emerson, moved to New York, gotten a really good job with the National Enquirer and my boyfriend john had moved to the City and into my apartment .We were in the process of buying a house in Brooklyn. Everything was perfect.

I was hoping that John would propose, we'd have a beautiful wedding and then we'd try for kids..but i just figured it would go in that order... WRONG!  

I had been sick for a few weeks but i wrote it off  as a cold, which i usually get but as the days and weeks went by, my cold was getting worse and worse, I hate taking medicine so i just suffered.... loudly

"Nikki, you have to go to the Doctor's" John Insisted

"No, i'm fine" I said then had a coughing fit

"No,you're going and i dont want to hear another word" John insisted

"What if he finds something? like pnemunia?" I said scared

"Quit being a Hypocondriac, you'll get some cough medicine and be done with it already, Now go, I'd go with you but i have to be in work in 40 mins" John said shoving me out the door

I hailed a cab and was dropped off at Cedars Sinai, where i sat for about an hour before i was called in.

"Hello" The Doctor said coming into the Office,"My Name is Dr.Warren, What seems to be the Trouble"

"I have a terrible cold that won't seem to go away" I said

"How long have you had this cold?" The Doctor sat down behind her desk

"About 3 weeks  Give or take a few days " I said trying to the calculations in my head

"When was your last period?" The Doctor said writing down my answers

"oh god, uh i can't remember, i've been so busy i hadn't noticed" I said feeling stupid

"Ok, well let's run some tests and find what's going on" The Doctor said standing up

She took so much blood out of me, i thought she was a vampire and P.S. having a tongue depressor shoved down your throat isn't the greatest feeling especially when your nausous and can't breath through your nose.

After awhile, I was lead back into the doctor's office.

"Well Miss Capone," The Doctor said (i use my grandmother's name for doctor's appointments and professional reasons becauselet's face it , no one can pronounce my real last name}

"Yes?" I said, a big bundle of nerves

"We have your test results," She paused for dramatic effect,"You're Pregnant"

"Whoa! What?" I said my eyes popping out of my skull

"Yes  Congratulations!" Doctor Warner said smiling

"oh my god" I just sat there with my jaw scraping the ground

" I take it this wasn't planned?" The Doctor said looking concerned

"Not exactly, We just bought a house and kinda weren't planning on this for awhile." I explained

"Oh Well if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me" The Doctor Left

After i left the doctor's office, i walked around Central Park looking at the different kids and their parents, seeing how they interacted with one another

I walked the five blocks to my apartment and up the stairs to our apartment, let myself in and laid down on the bed

I must have fallen asleep because when i woke up, it was dark out and I heard keys being jingled in the door

"HELLO" i heard john yell

"IN THE BEDROOM"  I yelled back,i sat up,flattened my hair and waited for him

"Hi Honey" He said kissing me on the forehead

"Hi Sweetie" I replied, " How was your day?"

"Eh not too bad, I had meetings back to back and then i got roped into a conversation with Jim from accounting over the Stock Market" John was the youngest partner at the Hottest Finacial Firms on Wall Street

"Oh that's good" I never know what to say when he talks math to me

"What did you do today?"  John asked

" I went to the doctor's like you wanted" I said hugging the pillow to my chest

"What'd he say? Did they find something?" John said nervously

"Oh she found something alright" I said pulling the sheet over my head

" Well, what She find?" He said pulling the sheet back

I took a deep breath and said "I'm pregnant"

"Yah right c'mon be serious what did they find" He said

"they found a baby, I'm pregnant, Isn't that great?" I said smiling

"No" He stood up

"What?" I said stunned

"We aren't ready for kids,we haven't got room, we can't take care of ourselves let alone a baby, how could you do this to me?" He said angrily

"I didn't do this on purpose, it just happened, i can't believe you're reacting like this,  a baby is a wonderful thing and besides, we justbought ahouse and we both have great jobs"I said getting off the bed

"Exactly,we don't have time for a baby, I'm not ready..  we're not ready" He said storming into the kitchen

"Not ready?, John I'm almost 30, I've been ready for the last five years but I knew you weren't but this is a blessing" I said

"No it's not" He said slamming the fridge

"Why are you so against us having a baby? I mean you're so good with Ali, and you always seem to have a good time with her" I asked

"That's different,we only see them two or three times a year and she's older"

"But she was a baby when we started dating and you always seemed comfortable holding her" I said near tears

"Look, i don't want to have kids yet and this baby is a big mistake" He said storming back into the bedroom

"No, it's not, this baby is an extension of both of us and if you can't respect or accept that, then get out" The words just slipped out of my mouth

"What?" He couldn't believe it himself

"You heard me, if you can't be apart of this baby's life, then i don't want you anywhere near me or this baby, so get out" I said then stormed into the bathroom

I sat on the bathroom floor and cried for hours, i cried for myself, for my child, and for John

I don't know how long i was in there for but when i came out,most of John's clothes were gone and some of his jewelry too.

I got the cordless phone, a box of tissues and climbed into bed, I dialed the one person who could help me, Blake.

"Hmm Hello?" A voice said tiredly

"Blake?" I said crying

"Nikki? What's wrong?" Blake said more alert

I couldn't talk, just cry

"Honey, tell me what's wrong? please?" He sounded so sincere

"John left me!" I said sobbed into the phone

"What?! why? what happened?" Blake asked

" I thought we were perfect for each other but it turns out we wanted different things!" I couldn't stop crying

"It happens to everyone, honey, a least once in their lives" He tried to be so helpful

"I'm pregnant" I blurted it out

"Hold on, bad connection, i thought you said you were pregnant" He sounded so confused

"I am, what am i gonna do?" I said blowing my nose

"You're gonna stay put and i'm gonna fly out to New York" Blake is a history professor at UCLA

"Ok"I sniffled

True to His word, Blake flew from California to New York the next day, Bringing three of the best surprises ever, my best friends,Annie,Jen and Rachel

"SURPRISE" they shouted when i opened the door

"You guys,Oh my god!" We had a group hug,"What are you guys doing here?"

"Well,"Jen said," Blake called us and told us to haul our asses down here,Our girl was in trouble"

"We brought everything you need to get over a breakup,tequila, raunchy men bashing jokes, Playgirl magazine and about a year's worth of Ice cream" Rachel said

"That's so sweet, but i can't drink, i'm pregnant" I replied 

"Honey, the booze isn't for you,"Annie said " It's for us, we brought you diet coke"

"Now are you gonna let us in or are we gonna stand out here in the hallway all day? " Blake said smiling

"Come in,Come In" I said letting them into my apartment

We sat around laughing, catching up on each other's lives

"Ya Know,Nik,you crack me up,"Annie said

" I do? How so?" I asked

"You were the first one to get your license, you were the first one to buy a car, the first one to get into the college of your dreams and now this, can't you let me have anything ?" Annie said

"I didn't plan on this" I said defensively

"I wanted to be the first one to get pregnant and be abandoned, nothing ever happens to me!" Annie whined

I looked at Blake who looked at Jen who looked at Rachel  who looked at Annie and we all burst out laughing

"So Ok Ok what are you planning on doing?" Blake wanted to know

"I'm gonna have the baby i guess"  I said uncertainly

"Then it's settled" Blake said

"What is?" I asked

"We're gonna help you raise the baby" Rachel  said

"How? Annie,you live in Texas, Blake and Rachel live in California and Jen lives in Vegas, that's a long commute for a kid" I said

"NO you moron, we're gonna move to New York and help you with the baby" Jen said

"Are you serious? I can't ask you guys to ransack your lives because i got myself in trouble" I replied

"We can arrange it, I'm getting a pilot that films here in New York-"Rachel said

"And I put in for a Job at NYU" Blake put in

"But what about you and Annie?" I asked Jen 

"Well, I'm sure there are some day care places around here" Jen said

"And In this neighborhood alone, there are twenty Hairdressers, and If they're not hiring, i'll openmy own place" Annie Finished

"Are you sure you guys can handle a baby?" I asked

"YES" they shouted together

"Then I guess we're having a baby" I said smiling

                             With that three Aunts  and an Uncle were born

Over the next few weeks, things were insane, everyone was constantly flying back and forth from the west coast to New York packing and arranging to sell their apartments but things quickly settled down and we all got into a schedule.

I was four months into my pregnancy, I had a little bump of a belly not really noticeable to the naked eye .

Annie wanted to go shopping one beautiful June day,I had  agreed, I needed new clothes anyway ..

                  (Standing outside of the house)

"Where do you wanna go?" Annie asked digging through her purse for the car keys

"I don't know, Macy's?" I replied

"I got it, we'll head down downtown and walk around down there" Annie said

"Awesome let's go" I said and we both raced to the car

We were just pulling onto FDR driver and Annie was making the turn when all of a sudden CRASH!!! a truck plowed into the car,hitting  us on my side, i hit my head on the dashboard,  and Annie was thrown against her seat

There was smoke and glass flying everywhere!

"OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" Annie kept screaming

"OoOOh my head" I said

"Are you alright?" The driver of the truck said trying to open my door

"No, i think you'd better call an ambulance" I said before passing out

"OH MY GOD! NIKKI! WAKE UP!"  Annie screamed

                                                      ANNIE'S P.O.V

When we got hit and nikki passed out, i was so scared i didn't know what to do, should i call Blake? Should I call the police, everything  happened so fast

"ARE YOU ALRIGHT?" The scuzzball who'd hit us asked  

"I'MFINE!" I yelled back, i looked over at Nikki, who was hunched over the seat,"my friend's hurt though!"

"The Ambulance is coming, just hold on!" The Driver said finally prying open my door.

I got out of the car and sat down on the curb, just crying my eyes out.

The ambulance finally came and they had to extract Nikki from the car, the door was so smashed in.

"M'am, are you alright?" An EMT asked

"My neck kinda hurts, but what about my friend? She's pregnant" I asked

"We're getting her stabilized for transport, would you like to ride with us?" The EMT asked

I just nodded, I climbed into the back of the ambulance and sat next to Nikki, her hair was all wet, her face was bruised but  she looked peaceful"Is she..dead?" I asked timidly

"No, we've got a strong pulse, we'll know more once we get to the hospital, do you want us to call her husband" The EMT asked

"She's not married" I said holding her hand                                 

                                             Blake's P.O.V.

I was just coming through the door, when the phone began to ring.

"Hello?" I said balancing the phone while  trying to toss my briefcase onto the couch

"Blake?" i didn't recongize the voice because the voice was sobbing

"Annie?" I asked

"There's been an accident" Annie said shakily

"What happened?" I wanted to know

"A truck driver plowed into us and it doesn't look good, she was fine in the ambulance but she crashed twice in the emergency room" Annie started crying again

"Oh my god!, which hospital? I'll be right there!" I said panicking

"St Vincent's" Annie said then hung up

I raced to the hospital, where i found Annie sitting in the waiting room clutching Nikki's jean jacket

"ANNIE!"I yelled running into the emergency room

"OH MY GOD! BLAKE! Annie yelled back running toward me

"Where is she?" I wantedto know

"She's in room 321, but the doctor won't let me see her" Anniesaid crying into my shoulder

"It's ok, it's gonna be ok" I whispered in her ear,"I'm gonna go talk to the doctor, calm down ok?"

She nodded and sat back down.

I went up the Nurse's station, "Hi i need to speak to a doctor regarding a patient"

"What's the patient's name?" The Nurse said looking up from her crossword

"Nicole Capone" I said

"Are you the husband?" The nurse asked boredly

"Yes" I said without thinking

"Ok, the doctor will be right out" The nurse went back to her crossword

"Mr.Capone?" The Doctor called

"Yes that's me" I walked over to him

"You're wife is fine, she sustained a concussion, a few broken ribs and a fractured ankle, what i'm most concerned with is the baby,there is no way of knowing wheither your baby sustained trauma until you're wife delivers, so for the remainder of her pregnancy, i'm ordering her on complete bedrest" The Doctor said

"But that's five months!" I couldn't believe it

"It's you're decision, if she stays on bedrest, she'll have the baby naturally,if she doesn't, she'll  more than likely lose the baby, for tonight, though I want  her here overnight for observation. " The Doctor finished what he was saying and went back into Nikki's room.

I went back to where Annie was sitting

"I'm gonna stay here, why don't you go home and tell Rach and Jen what happened ok?" I said looking down at the tiles

"Ok, do you want me to bring you a change of clothes?  i'm gonna bring Nikki some clothes because  they had to cut them off in the ambulance" Annie stood up and kissed me on the forehead before heading out .

                                            NIKKI P.O.V

When i woke up in the hospital, i forgot where i was and started to panic until i saw Blake sitting in the chair beside my bed, asleep..he looked so sweet and peaceful

"Blake" I whispered,"Blake"

Nothing.

I picked up a tissue box and flung it at his head

"Wha?! Huh?!" He jumped up and nearly toppled over in the chair

"Hey you" I said groggly

"Heyyy glad you decided to join us" He said,"you gave us quite a scare, Missy"

"What happened?" I wanted to know

"There was a car accident, you were hit pretty hard" He sat on the edge of the bed

"Is Annie alright?" I tried to sit up

"She's fine, just a bump on the head and some minor whiplash" He said,"Careful you don't wanna pull your stitches"

"Oh my god..the baby?" I was suddenly filled with terror

"Baby's fine, but once you get sprung from here, you're gonna have to go on complete bedrest until it's time for the baby to be born" He held my hand

"Ok, i'll do whatever it takes" I said taking a deep breath

"Wow, you must have a concussion, i've never heard you agree to anything without an argument first" He laughed

"Yeah well, get pregnant first, then come talk to me" I laughed then yawned

"Alright,Missy,time for bed" He always calls me Missy when he wants me to do something

"Will you tuck me in?" I smiled

"Yeah, i guess i better get used to this, huh?" He said pulling up the blanket to my chin

"Yup" I replied

"Do you want me to go?" He stood over me smiling  

"Stay please?" i asked pouting

"Sure" He sat back down in the chair and held my hand until i fell back asleep.

The Next day, I was released in the custody of Blake and the Girls, who swore up and down to the Doctor that under no circumstance was i to move unless it was to take a shower or go to the bathroom, even then, someone had to help me..how humilating but it was worth it knowing i could keep my baby

I tried not be a pain in the ass but when your stuck in bed for five long months and there is nothing on cable,you tend to whine and whine i did.

"I'm bored!" I said for the millionth time

"We know, we know!" Rachel said, as Blake came in carrying a box

"I have something here that will make you less whiny" He set the box on the ground

"NO MORE BOARD GAMES!" The girls and i yelled together

"No this isn't a board game, although that last round of Clue get interesting" He said starting to rip the box open

"Only cause you won,Now what's in the box?" Annie insisted

"It's an ultra sound machine, i rented it since you can't go to you doctor's appointments"

"What the hell is that?" Annie asked

"It shows you a picture of the baby"Jen explained

"Well let's fire this sucker up!"Rachel said excitedly  

Blake set up the machine on the desk and put the wand againstmy belly button

"OoOo cold!" I whistled

"Hold on,Almost there.." Blake moved the wand in a circle around thebase of my belly,"Bingo!" there it was, as clear as day, my baby!

"Oh my god!" I couldn't believe it

"Can you see if it's a boy or a girl,Blake?" Rachel asked

"Well, eight years of science and about half of those teaching biology, my guess is that we have ourselves a baby girl!"

"Oh my god!" Annie squealed

"I have a daughter?" I cried

"Yes" Blake smiled,

"We gotta celebrate!" Jen said

"Let's throw a baby shower!" Rachel said

"How? I can't get out of bed and my room is too small to have alot of people come in."  I said

"The doctor said you get up to go the bathroom right? So we move you down to the couch and we party in the living room" Annie said

"Brillant Holmes" I said smiling

" I know!" Annie said smiling

So the girls planned a baby shower, they called everyone we'd gone to high school with, some of the women i work with at the Enquirer and a Bunch of women who i barely knew but were good friends with Annie, Rachel and Jen.

While the girls planned the shower, Blake got busy painting  the nursery, he painted the walls with bunnies and a disney themed mural , It was cute and to top it all off, he bought a beautiful white wooden crib.

You might be asking what i was doing while the nursery was being set up and the party was being planned, i was lying on my ass getting fatter and fatter  and hating john for getting me pregnant.

"Ya know, Nik, Pregnancy really agrees with you"Annie said one day helping me get dressed

"Really?" I said

"Yeah, your boobs have NEVER been bigger" Annie said

I stopped struggling to get my shirt over my head and just looked at her

"What?" She wanted to know

I didn't even know how to answer THAT one

The day of the party, I couldn't believe who showed up, there was Gina, Dina, Stevanne, I couldn't believe it , they managed to track down Kelly and Hollis, it was so amazing, We laughed and Gina passed around pictures of her kids, Noah and Gracie, Dina talked how her life was going in New Hampshire and how her theatre company was going. Stevanne mentioned that she was expanding her Vet Clinic and Hollis and Kelly said they were planning on open their own store. life was sweet for them.

I was due on Dec 2nd but of course MY childdidn't want to be like the other kidsand arrive on time, i was two weeks past my due date and i was more than  willingto  reach up there and yank her out, but the Doctor reassured us that the baby would come on her own time.

I was just getting out of the shower and attempting to dry my hair, when my water broke.

"OH MY GOD! BLAKE!" I shouted,"BLAKE! ANNIE, SOMEONE?"

All four of them came racing into the bathroom, normally i would have been humilated at the thought of having my friends seeing me naked but i was stunned

"What's wrong? Are you alright?" Blake asked

"My water just broke!" I said shivering

"This is it!" Rachel said  throwing a towel over my shoulders

"Oh my god, you're having a baby!" Annie burst into tears

"Before we go anywhere, i think you'd better put some clothes on" Jen said

I stuffed myself into a tank top and shorts (even though it was December, I was so hot)  We hailed a cab to St.Vincent's, where i was checked in and strapped to a fetal monitor (it checks the baby's heartbeat)

We waited and waited and waited and did i mention we waited?

"How long does it take to have a baby?" Rachel asked

"Well for this one 9  months two weeks and 23 hours" Blake said checking his watch

"oOo god!" I yelled as a contraction hit

After that first one hit, it was only a matter of time before the contractions came all at once.

"OOH MY GOD!" I screamed into Annie's ear

"Someone wanna take over? She deafening me!" Annie said

"Ooh my god!ooOo god! OoOh god!I yelled

"Ok Nicole, we need to give one more giant push ok?" The Doctor said

"I can't please don't make me it hurts so much" I cried

"I know it hurts honey, but you can do this C'mon..push" Blake said stroking my hair.

"Arrgggghh!" I grunted

and then the greatest sound ever..a baby's first wail!

"She's here!" The Doctor  held her up

"Oh my god!" I said crying

"Oh my god" Blake repeated,tearing

"Holy Hell" Annie said turning green

"Oh my" Rachel said

"We have a baby!" Jen said crying
